Record-Breaking International IC-China Conference & Exhibition to Feature Over 1,400 Booths in 2008 -- up 34 Percent Year-on-Year
For 2009 Global Sources Plans to Increase Frequency and Locations
HONG KONG, February 19, 2008 – Global Sources' (NASDAQ: GSOL) 13th International IC-China Conference & Exhibition (IIC-China, http://www.iic-china.com), mainland China's largest system design event, is expected to offer engineers a record-breaking 1,400 booths in 2008 -- up 34 percent over 2007. The company plans to expand the event schedule for IIC-China from four times in 2008 to seven in 2009.

"IIC-China has continued to be mainland China's premier technical event, offering even more choices of business opportunities for participants through its robust growth," said Mark A. Saunderson, president of Global Sources' Electronics Business Unit. "This year, we have 40 percent more exhibitors and expect more than 30,000 engineers to attend."

In 2008, Global Sources expects to expand its successful Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing IIC-China show line-up by offering more than 100 booths at the new Chengdu venue. Scheduled shows are:

  • Chengdu: February 28-29, Chengdu Century City New International Convention and Exposition Center
  • Shenzhen: March 3-4, Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center
  • Beijing: March 6-7, China World Trade Center
  • Shanghai: March 10-11, Shanghai Mart

Components Pavilion Success Marked by 142 Percent Growth, Expansion to Two New Locations

Building on the successful 2007 debut of the event's Components Pavilion in Shenzhen, IIC-China is featuring a larger Components Pavilion in Shenzhen in 2008, plus two new locations in Chengdu and Shanghai. Total Components Pavilion booths are expected to top 300, up 142 percent year-on-year.

IIC-China Supports Robust Mainland China Electronics Industry Growth with 2009 Expansion

Saunderson continues: "Mainland China's electronics industry remains robust despite the US-led economic slowdown.

"Research firm, Euromonitor International forecasts consumption of high-street electronics to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14 percent, reaching $151 billion in 2011 and iSuppli's IC Insights places mainland China's chip consumption at $100-billion by 2010.

"International and domestic demand for new electronic products is feeding new and fast-growing industry hubs in mainland China like Wuhan and Xi'an. Wuhan's electronics industry alone grew 58 percent in 2007.

"IIC-China plans to deliver design knowledge and associated technology to design innovators in these cities, plus extended reach for our customers, for the very first time in 2009."

In 2009, IIC-China is scheduled to be held in all of mainland China's six major electronics hubs as follows:

Spring:

  • Shenzhen Feb. 26-27
  • Xi'an March 2-3
  • Beijing March 5-6
  • Shanghai March 9-10

Fall:

  • Chengdu Nov. 5-6
  • Wuhan Nov. 9-10
  • Shenzhen Nov. 12-13
